The rovinieta is the road-usage tax for Romania's national roads. It is mandatory for any vehicle driving on the motorways and national roads where the tax applies, including foreign-registered cars. The price is set by CNAIR in euro and paid in lei, and the validity period can range from one day up to 12 months. The rovinieta can be paid online by card on the official e-rovinieta.ro website or, more simply, directly in the Pago app, in under a minute.

The steps are simple:

The vignette price is set by CNAIR in euro and paid in lei at the monthly exchange rate. For passenger cars (category A) the tariffs are:

At a rate of about 5.25 lei/€, a one-year car vignette costs roughly 262 lei. Larger vehicles (categories B–H) have separate, higher tariffs.

If you drive on the national roads without a valid rovinieta, the fine for passenger cars is between 500 and 1,000 lei (under Government Ordinance 23/2025). The fine can be paid at half the legal minimum within 15 days of being notified. In Pago you get a reminder before your vignette expires, so you can keep it up to date.
